Express Entry for Immigrants with Skills

Express Entry allows skilled immigration applicants to apply for PR under one of four economic immigration programs, including the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, the Canada Experience Class Program, and the Provincial Nominee Program (specific components).

1. Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) : In order to attract skilled workers intending to venture into Canada permanently, the Government of Canada has introduced the Federal Skilled Worker Program for 2023. The application procedure includes two steps: establishing an Express Entry profile online.

Applicants will use their online profiles to provide Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada with their work experience, education, language abilities, skills, and other personal information pertinent to the application evaluation. Those who satisfy the requirements of one of those mentioned earlier, three professional immigration programs, will be admitted to a candidate pool. However, admission into the candidate pool does not guarantee an invitation to register for permanent residence (ITA).

Applicants with a job offer supported by a Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or a provincial government nomination for permanent residence will have a greater chance of obtaining an ITA. It is optional for candidates without a job offer, LMIA, or provincial nomination to register with Employment and Social Development Canada’s Job Bank. Once in the pool, candidates should pursue employment through other independent means.

All Express Entry for Immigrants with Skills applicants will be ranked against one another using a points-based system called the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Applicants are awarded points based on their talents, work experience, job offer, provincial nomination, and language proficiency. Those applicants with the most excellent CRS scores will be offered an Invitation To Apply (ITA).

A candidate will have 60 days to submit an online application for permanent residence after receiving an ITA. Candidates who do not receive an ITA may remain in the applicant pool for 12 months. After 12 months in the Express Entry pool, candidates must establish a new online Express Entry Profile if they continue to satisfy the eligibility requirements for their chosen skilled immigration program.
